To Review or Not
Reviewing a good book, one that you’ve really enjoyed, is easy. Straightforward. But what about those ones that you thought stank? Should you leave an honest review or just not review at all? Are you doing the author a favour by telling them that their writing is pants, their plot is full of holes or the character is too stupid to live?
Some books are not to my taste. If I feel I’ve been mislead by the blurb, I will say so, but if I’ve made the error then I wouldn’t leave a negative review? But there are some, just occasionally where I feel so strongly that the writer is doing themselves and other writers a disservice by publishing such poorly written material. Should I leave a constructively critical review pointing out what ‘I’ believe are the error of their ways (it is after all, subjective) or should I keep quiet and not review at all?
The jury is still out … but my goodness, that last book I read was a shocker!
